Public Relations
Activity Continues
The Committee on Public Relations of the
Iowa State Bar Association sent out its first
questionnaires to the lawyers of Iowa in Au-
gust and later, because of what appeared to be
Insufficient responses, followed them up with
an additional circulation of questionnaires in
November. To date the committee has received
over seven hundred answers from the ques-
tionnaires which were sent out. Since those re-
turned responses to the second request are
generally of the same pattern as the earlier
ones, the committee believes that the answers
received may be regarded as a representative
expression from the bar. The committee ex-
amined all of the questionnaires, analyzed and
classified them, and at the December meeting
of the Board of Governors made a report
coupled with recommendations which were
based on the suggestions and recommendations
received from those answering the question-
naires.
Through funds granted by the Iowa State
Bar Foundation, the Public Relations Com-
mittee is at the present time using the serv-
ices of an experienced analyst who is inde-
pendently making a study and statistical di-
gest of the answers to the questionnaires.
Among the recommendations made by the com-
mittee to the Board of Governors at the Decem-
ber meeting were the following:
It was recommended that since, In the public
mind, the organized bar has a responsibility for
the conduct of Its members and for lawyers
generally, whether or not members of the As-
sociation, it should have authority commen-
surate with this responsibility. It was recom-
mended that a study be made as to effective
means to that end, and It was suggested that
where matters of discipline are to be under-
taken the conduct of any proceedings should
be moved as far as possible from the local
bar.
It was also recommended that appropriate
action should be taken to give greater weight
to qualities of character as a determining fac-
tor not only in the matter of admissions to
the bar but also In respect to registration for
office study, enrollment In law schools and
membership in the Association itself.
Bar Examination
Charles Barlow, Clerk of the Supreme
Court, has announced that examinations
for admission to the Bar of Iowa will be
held In Iowa City on February 17, 18 and
19.
All prospective and qualified applicants
may avail themselves of this opportunity
for immediate admission by making ap-
plication to the Clerk of the Supreme
