he Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of
NorthWest Texas will recognize major do-
nors to the annual Campaign for Equal Ac-
cess to Justice at the inaugural of DBA President
Beverly Godbey on Saturday, January 20. The an-
nual campaign, which culminates at the inaugural,
supports the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program,
a joint program of the DBA and LANWT.

Michael & Judy Keller Shore
Since it began in 1993, the campaign has
raised more than $3.6 million for legal aid to the
poor. This year's major donors to the campaign
include new donors and those who have helped to
fund the program for many years.
Michael and Judy Keller Shore have been
major donors to the campaign for nine years. Not
only are they supporting the campaign again this
year with a $25,000 gift, but they have offered to
match any campaign gifts of $5,000 or greater
from new donors or those who haven't given to
the campaign since 2001.
It is important to our family that new support-
ers of the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program be
identified, cultivated and motivated to support
legal services for the poor and underserved in our
community, according to Mr. and Mrs. Shore.
We hope that by matching gifts from others that
we can pass the torch of leadership on to a new
generation of donors and supporters. Only by
expanding support and involvement to others can
this program hope to meet its potential for service
in our community. The Shores have donated
$205,000 to the campaign since 1999.
Andy Payne of The Payne Law Group is this
year's newest President's Circle Donor, contribut-
ing $25,750 to the campaign.
Professionally, I've been blessed in many
ways, Mr. Payne said. I'm fortunate to have a
career that continues to be both personally and fi-
nancially rewarding. Considering these blessings,

den Eykel & Robertson PC.

I'm also fortunate to be in a position to give back
to those in need.
Mr. Payne, like others who donate to the cam-
paign, believes that for attorneys, Equal Access
to Justice is a perfect avenue for giving.... [Tihis
program allows us to give back to the civil justice
system, which benefits us all.
Providing legal services to the less fortunate
is an undertaking that is unique and exclusive to
those with a law license, he added. Instead of

providing a month of meals, legal aid may help a
client obtain government benefits that will feed
them indefinitely. Rather than spending a night
in a shelter, legal services may prevent a foreclo-
sure and keep a permanent roof over a family in
need.
Mr. Payne was also motivated by another
significant DVAP supporter. My mentor, John
Howie, said that it is a shame that most law-
yers drive cars that are more expensive than
their charitable contributions, Mr. Payne noted.
John's comment continues to ring true with me,
and it has inspired me to get involved in helping
Equal Access to Justice.
Hon. Deborah G. Hankinson, a major donor
for four years, continues to demonstrate and in-
crease her support for legal services through a
$25,000 contribution to this year's campaign. Jus-
tice Hankinson has given $65,000 to the campaign
since 2003.
Koons, Fuller, Vanden Eykel & Robert-
son, P.C. has been a major donor for 12 years.
With this newest gift of $15,000, the firm has con-
tributed $167,500 to the campaign.
Brown McCarroll, L.L.P. has been a major
donor for 12 years. The firm has donated $15,000
to the 2007 campaign, and has given $161,740 to
the Campaign for Equal Access since 2005.
As of our print date, this year's campaign has
raised more than $464,000.
   Several dedicated volunteers have donated
their time and fundraising skills to make this
 year's campaign a success.
Sally Crawford, a partner with Jones Day,
who received the State Bar's Frank J. Scurlock
Award for her outstanding pro bono work, is the
general chair of this year's campaign. Paul
Stafford, a senior trial attorney at Hughes &
Luce, LLP, and a member of the DBA Board of
 Directors, is the campaign's co-chair.
