Local Attorneys Strive To

Provide 'Justice for All'

he Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid
of NorthWest Texas have kicked off the
annual Campaign for Equal Access to Justice,
marking the 12th campaign. Since its beginning in
1993, the campaign which benefits the Dallas Volun-
teer Attorney Program has raised more than $2.85
million for legal aid to
the poor.
   Michael and
Judy Keller Shore,
major donors to the
campaign for seven
years, are supporting
the campaign again
this year with a $25,000
gift. This brings the

tions to $155,000 since
1999.

legal needs of local residents.

gent fees alone, Mr. Shore notes. Most people cannot
afford to pay even modest hourly rates for legal matters
that appear on the surface to be routine, but are emo-

the persons involved.

jurors. Lawyers expect ordinary citizens to sit for days,
weeks or even months as jurors. The least we can do
as a bar is donate time or money to support the public's
need - our jury pool's need - for access to the legal
system.

Several other law firms have continued to support
the campaign as major donors, including Koons, Fuller,
Vanden Eykel & Robertson; Brown McCarroll, L.L.P.;
Baron & Budd, P.C;. and Bruegger & McCullough,
P.C. - who have each pledged $15,000 to the campaign.
A new major donor at the $15,000 level is Hon. Debo-

Court of Texas who also serves on the Texas Equal Ac-

T motby W Mountz

                         by Steve Malin
A s the 96th President of the Dallas Bar Association, Tim
Mountz intends to focus on the legal profession's core values
        - professionalism and service. His inspiration comes from the
many DBA members who are already living out these principles.
   Mountz intends to
introduce a number of
initiatives to encourage
DBA members, and the bar
in general, to instill these
values into their professional
lives and to pass them on to
other lawyers.
   Timothy W. Mountz was
born December 18, 1955, in
Louisville, Ky. He graduated
from Louisville's Seneca
High School in 1973 where
he was elected president
of the senior class of 450
students and voted Most
Likely to Succeed by his
classmates.
   Encouraged by two high
school friends, Mountz came Mountz
to Dallas in 1973 to attend
Southern Methodist University, where he received a BA degree, with
high honors, after three years. Mountz went on to Duke Law School,
where he graduated in 1979 after having served for two years on the
Editorial Board of the Duke Law Journal. At Duke, he especially enjoyed
the trial advocacy and moot court programs, spurring his interest in a
litigation career.
After graduation, Mountz began work as an associate with the firm of
Rain Harrell Emery Young & Doke, where he became a partner in 1985,
and later a senior shareholder in Locke Purnell Rain Harrell, P.C.
From 1979 to 1997, he had the opportunity to work with legendary
