Wouldn'lt it in teresting to hear what they, did fromt day to day, what sort of activities they enjoyed iost what were the exciting evcets in their lives' I have a volume written by a vey distan cousin. cntitled So u , trs toom a Loving Grandpa to I'wo o His Boys IdTeling Storie of His Lifje which was printed privatey by Grandpa, a Geriai imwigrant who was born in 1825, and gr ew up in New Yoirk, Illinois, Wyoming and Utah, always going westward rhese letters tell a lot about the times he lived in, and inadvertently tell more about Grandpa than could ever have been learned in any other way. Some of Grandpa's own hard-carred wisdom is transmitted to his children's cildren's children's children. Grandpa tells about his trip as a boy fronm New York to Illinois, froni there to Wyoming and Utah, in large coaches drawn by four and six horses; of being lost in a great woodls f ul of wlves and bears, of working ir a maple sugar canip mid-February to mid-March, tapping the trees and hoiling the sap until 'sugar-ol C time arrived; sometimes sugaring off at one sweep off the top of the big kettec as niuch as 200 pounds of maple sugar candy; of listening to war stories told by veterans of the War of 1812 undler Comin modore Perry; of the death of his young sister from a mysterious fever; of the very leaned and good old gentleman who had said to hint, Ben- jann Franklin was a very wise man.
