SBAND COMMITEES
AT WORK
The Pattern Jury Instructions Committee,
chaired by Bob Vogel, continues to
make progress in revising pattern jury in-
structions for criminal cases. Accord-
ing to Vogel, the Committee hopes to
have instructions for criminal cases
finished by SBAND's Annual Meeting in
June. The committee recently added
criminal-practitioner members to help
with the task. Next year the Committee
hopes to revise instructions foi civil
cases.
Chairman Jim Geyer and the Unauthor-
ized Practice Committee are working on
two complaints of unauthorized practice.
The Committee is working with the At-
torney General's Office on at least one
of the complaints. Geyer recently
authored a legal memo on unauthoriz-
ed practice which will be presented at
the Midyear meeting of the ABA's Stand-
ing Committee on Unauthorized Prac-
tice of Law in New Orleans, February 5.

The Continuing Legal Education Com-
mittee is traditionally one of the busiest.
This year is no exception. Chairman Dan
Vogel and others are working out the
final details for the Intensive Trial Ad-
vocacy Course in January. Vogel
believes this course is the first of its kind
in North Dakota. Together with the Tax-
ation and Business & Corporations Sec-
tions, the Committee is also developing
topics for the Spring and Annual Meeting
seminars.
A review of SBAND's group disability
insurance plan was on the agenda at a
recent meeting of the Group Insurance
Committee chaired by Randy Lee. After
two presentations on disability plans, the
Committee discussed possible changes
in the hospitalization and medical
coverage.

Bob Hartl and Chuck Orvik are seen

law and life during one of the coffee
breaks at the December seminar.

The Board discussed a request from the
Disciplinary Board for increased con-
tributions from SBAND for attorney
discipline. President Gierke and
President-elect Bye will meet with

representatives from the Dkciplinary
Board and the Supreme Court.
The Board unanimously adopted an
amendment to Article XIII of SBAND's
by-laws which authorizes the Board to
