SBAND's five sections plan a full year
of activities for 1982-83.
The Family Law Section in its first year
of existence, is so new that it doesn't
have its officers officially elected yet.
Officers will be elected by mail ballot
contained in the Section's first quarterly
newsletter. Family Law topics are
covered extensively in the October
Bench and Bar Seminar. The program
includes a welcome by Carma Christ-
ensen of the Family Law Section. Sec-
tion members are encouraged to at-
tend.
The Young Lawyers Section is cohost-
Ing its first annual Wine and Cheese
Party following the Homecoming CLE
Seminar. In conjunction with the Law
School, the party will run from 5:00 -
6:30 p.m. at the J.Lloyd Stone Alumni
Center on the UND Campus. Section
Chairman David Bailly and others will
be on hand to welcome party goers.
The Young Lawyers Section hopes to
make this an annual event.
The Mineral Law Committee of the Real
Property, Probate and Trust Section is
drafting possible legislation on the a-
bandonment of mineral rights. Accord-

ing to Committee member Jack Sher-
man, current statutes on abandonment
could cause confusion. The Real Prop-
erty, Probate and Trust Section has also
been authorized to meet with the North
Dakota Abstractors to collaborate on a
set of forms.
The Section on Corporation and Busi-
ness, Taxation, and Family Law all plan
a quarterly newsletter for their mem-
bers. The newsletters will be included
with the GAVEL and will contain sever-
al items of local interest and a major ar-
ticle by national and local experts.
All sections will be monitoring legis-
lation, providing a forum for discus-
sion, diseminating information to the
members of the bar and the public, and
functioning generally to improve prac-
tice in their area of the law.
The standard fee for membership is
$10.00 per section which can be paid
with the license fee by checking the ap-
propriate boxes. Some SBAND mem-
bers have suggested the possibility of
sections on agricultural law and legal
rights of women. If you would have an
interest in being a member of these sec-
tions please let us know at P.O. Box
2136, Bismarck, North Dakota 58502.
