U.S. COURT  DIVISION
LINES CHANGED

The 95th Congress has
enacted the Federal Court
Organization Act of 1978,
which amends the U. S.
Code to place the counties
of Sheridan and Wells from
the Southeastern Division,
and the counties of Bot-
tineau, McHenry and Pierce
from the Northeastern Di-
vision, all into the
Northwestern Division
of the Federal Judicial
District of North Dakota
with courtrooms in Minot.
The bill has been signed
by the President. It will
take effect March 31, 1979.

Under prior law, jurors
and litigants in Sheridan
and Wells counties were
required to travel to the
Federal Court in Fargo,
and those in Bottineau,
McHenry and Pierce coun-
ties were required to at-
tend court in Grand Forks.
Under the reorganization,
jurors and litigants in
the five counties will
travel to Federal Court
in Minot.
The SBAND office has also
been advised by Cletus
Schmidt, Clerk of U. S.

District Court, that
several changes to the
Local Rules of Court have
recently been promulgatei.
The first amendment im-
lements the county re-
organization mentioned
above. The amendment is
effective April 1, 1979.
The second amendment re-
lates to changes in disci-
plinary enforcement and
reinstatement procedures,
effective February 1, 1979.
Schmidt stated that the
amendments will soon be
distributed to members of
