THE JUDICIAL ELECTION-AN OPPORTUNITY
The Bar Association is just now entering upon a new year of
activity. To justify its existence it must during this year make
some progress towards promoting. the great purposes for which it
was established. Its usefulness in promoting the due administra-
tion of justice must be increased; social intercourse among its
members must be cultivated; the honor and dignity of the pro-
fession must be maintained. Its influence, however, will be com-
mensurate with the zeal displayed by its members in furthering
these objects. Every member must help.
The coming judicial election presents to the Association the
first opportunity of the year for action. Last June it went to the
effort and expense of a bar primary to determine its preference for
candidates for judicial office at this election. This expressed pref-
erence may be an invaluable guide to voters but so long as it
remains buried in the files of the Association it is nothing. In
some direct way it must be brought to the voters. The Associa-
tion and its members, alone will do it. Accordingly, the Board of
Managers has decided actively to support these candidates, a step
in which it should have the co-operation of every member of the
Association.
Already contributions have been solicited, but a contribution
should be only the beginning. Members of the Association provide
innumerable points of contact between the Association and the
voters. Consequently the duty of each member is clear. He owes
it to the public and to the Association to present personally to
voters of his acquaintance the list of candidates which represents
the choice of the Association. By so doing he will fulfill a duty to
the community and help the Association to increase its usefulness
in promoting the due administration of justice, one of the purposes
for which it was established.
