THE JUDICIAL CAMPAIGN
AS in the Spring of 1921, the opportunity again presents itself
to The Chicago Bar Association to make its influence a real
factor in the selection of our judges. More and more the
public are coming to realize that they must look to the lawyers to
guide them in this selection. Without such guidance, they are left
to choose according to the party affiliation of the respective candi-
dates, which, as a test of judicial fitness, breaks down completely.
No intelligent vot'e can be cast without knowledge of the facts.
The lawyers of the community possess knowledge of the facts,
coupled with the keenest desire to place upon the bench the men
best qualified to adjudicate those cases which constitute their daily
life. The composite judgment of the lawyers, therefore, furnishes
the safest guide to the public in the casting of their ballot.
In this lies the present opportunity of The Chicago Bar Asso-
ciation. The Association's primary has been held, and it now re-
mains to give the result such publicity that the voters will carry
with them to the polls the expert advice so provided. The Board
of Managers ha:, voted in favor of, and has already embarked upon
a campaign of publicity to bring this knowledge before the people.
The outstanding feature of this campaign will be the publica-
tion on Monday, November fifth, in the daily papers of Chicago of
a prominent notice of the Bar Association vote, containing a sam-
ple ballot marked in accordance with the result of our primary, and
also showing the number of votes cast for each candidate. Thus
will the voters of Chicago have before them sufficient data upon
which to base an intelligent vote.
