CHAIR'S CORNER
By C. Bruce Stratton, Chair ADR Section
This year is off to an excellent start. Many people have offered their time and talents toward serving on key projects
of the Section. As the year progresses we hope to involve more people in our efforts. The following is an overview of
certain specific projects.
QUALITY OF PRACTICE TASK FORCE
Our Quality of Practice Task Force will have its first meeting on October 29, 1994 during the SPIDR convention in
Dallas. The Task Force will continue to examine the need for any type of credentialing and, if recommended, how best
it can be implemented. The existence of the Task Force echoes the fact that credentialing is being widely discussed by
both providers and users. There were over 300 responses to our credentialing survey which we sent to the general mem-
bership the latter part of July. Over 100 of those responding indicated that they would write papers on credentialing
and I sent each of them a request for such a paper. The San Diego Mediation Center, San Diego, CA, gratuitously pro-
vided us with their comprehensive publication Mediator Credential - An Implementation Guide for which we are
grateful. All of this material is being furnished to the Task Force. The excellent response to our survey as shown else-
where in this Newsletter evidences that the subject is on the minds of our membership. The Task Force was restructured
during July and August. Nancy Atlas (Houston) and Sid Stahl (Dallas) have continued as Co-Chairs. The remaining
membership of the Task Force is as follows: Pat Bart (Houston), Herbert V. Cooke, Jr. (Dallas), Suzanne Mann Duvall
(Dallas), W. Richard Evarts (Dallas), Hon. Charles A. Gonzalez (San Antonio), Kimberlee Kovach (Houston), Lou Ann
Lasher (Austin), Bill Low (Grapevine), Hon. Lamar McCorkle (Houston), Lanelle Montgomery (Austin), W. Thomas
Proctor (Houston), Maxel Bud Silverberg (Dallas) and Michael J. Wolf (San Antonio). The Chair of the ADR Section
and the Co-Chair-Elects will serve as ex-officio members. Many of the Task Force members will be attending various
programs on credentialing which will be held during the SPIDR annual convention.
EDITORIAL BOARD - NEWSLETTER
An Editorial Board composed of Kimberlee Kovach (Chair), Mary Thompson (Austin), and the Hon. Margaret
Mirabal (Houston) has been created to oversee the publication policy of the Newsletter and to assist our Newsletter
Editor, Debbie Andrews. The Editorial Board presented an amended editorial policy for discussion at the last Council
meeting in Austin on September 24, 1994. It was passed in the form shown elsewhere in this Newsletter. We are hope-
ful that by establishing the Editorial Board and the Publication Policy, authors will feel more comfortable in writing arti-
cles for the Newsletter and the quality of the publication will continue to improve.
