CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Since the last issue of The Advocate and the Chairman's Report,
Litigation Update 1990 Seminar at the Plaza San Antonio, San Antonio,
Texas, enjoyed a uniformly high rating and evaluation by those attending.
From all reports, it was avery successful endeavor, with the speakers covering
a wide variety of litigation-oriented subject matters. Plans for Litigation
Update 1991 will begin in the near future.
The Litigation Section has made plans to sponsor a CLE program dur-
ing the annual State Bar Convention, from 2:00 to 4:15 p.m., Friday, June 8,
1990, as part of the annual meeting of the Litigation Section. The program
will be on Ethics and Professionalism and the New Lawyers' Creed. The
speakers and subjects are as follows:
Dean Frank Newton, Texas Tech University
School of Law
A Lawyer's Duty to the Client;
Larry Hicks, Attorney, El Paso, Texas
A Lawyer's Duty to Other Lawyers;
Hon. A. Joe Fish, Federal District Judge,
Northern District of Texas
A Lawyer's Duty to the Court; and
David Keltner, Attorney, Ft. Worth, Texas
Duties of a Law Firm.
Following these presentations, Frank Baker, immediate past chairman, San
Antonio, Texas, will moderate a panel discussion. MCLE credit will be given
for those attending.
The Center for Ethics and Professionalism is now open for business at
the St. Mary's Law School, San Antonio, Texas. The Articles of Incorpo-
ration were filed in December 1989, with Robert Calvert, Joe Greenhill and
Jack Pope, all former chiefjustices of the Texas Supreme Court, as the incor-
porators. Bylaws were adopted at the first organizational meeting held
January 17, 1990. The trustees of the Foundation are Frank Newton, Ed
Coultas, Frank Davis, Bill Edwards,.Bill Hilgers, Phil Jenkins, Franklin
Jones, Jim Branton, Bob Meyers, Harlow Sprouse, Berry Crowley and Frank
Baker. Jim Castleberry, Dean Emeritus of St. Mary's Law School, was
elected as Executive Director. The meetings of this organization will be held
alternately at all the law schools throughout the State of Texas, so as to be
identified with the entire state.
