CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Dear Members:
Membership in the Litigation Section has increased 27% over the last two years. Hope-
fully, through the efforts of all of us, we will be able to continue this growth.
We have an outstanding program planned for the State Bar Convention. Our keynote
speaker will be Professor James W. McElhaney who is an outstanding speaker and au-
thor. I am sure most of you read his regular column entitled Trial Notebook which is
published in the Litigation magazine, the journal of the Section of Litigation of the Ameri-
can Bar Association. He has also written a book on trial matters which is excellent. He
is an outstanding speaker and we were fortunate to obtain him to deliver the main
address.
The Litigation Section will again be co-sponsoring the Advanced Civil Trial Course.
It looks like a really excellent course, and I encourage all of you to attend it.
Right now we have just completed working with the A.B.A. on a program. In the next
issue, I will have a complete report to give you.
The Section has sponsored several statewide programs this year and the attendance
has been excellent. If any of you have any suggestions as to other programs that you
feel we should be involved in, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. We want
the Section to continue to grow and welcome your suggestions.
Eugene A. Cook,
Chairman
EDITOR'S REPORT
My apologies to the membership for being late in coming out with this first issue of
1984. To make up for this you may expect to see two more issues by or before the State
Bar Convention this summer.
Numerous lawyers and members of this section have agreed to write articles for THE
ADVOCATE. I am deeply indebted to them as is the entire section. We (that's the Editori-
al we) hope more of you will do the same. If you do not wish to write, you might at
least send in topics which you would like to see discussed. Also, you will notice that
the Question Box is missing. The reason is simple: no questions were sent to me!
The next issue of THE ADVOCATE should have the article on the effective date of
Art. 1995 and some excellent commentary on the new rule changes effective April 1, 1984.
J. Patrick Hazel,
Editor
