REVISING THE ALASKA GAME LAW
NOVEMBER 5, 1942.-Committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the
state of the Union and ordered to be printed
Mr. YOUNG, from the Committee on the Territories, submitted the
following
REPOJRT
[To accompany H. R. 7472]
The Committee on the Territories, to whom was referred the bill
(H. R. 7472) to revise the Alaska game law, having considered the
same, report favorably thereon with the following amendment and
recommend that the bill do pass:
On page 14, line 10, after the word other insert the word
sufficient.
The amendment above proposed is offered to correct a clerical error
made in drawing the bill and to make the bill conform to existing law.
The present Alaska game law was originally enacted in 1925 (act of
January 13, 1925; 43 Stat., 739). It has been amended in minor
details by subsequent acts of Congress.
The purpose of the bill under consideration is to revise the law
reenacting most of it but changing it in several particulars. The
important changes are as follows:
1. Treats the assignment to military service in Alaska as the tak-
ing up of residence therein so that at the expiration of 1 year of
military service in the Territory members are eligible foi- residenft
hunting licenses just the same as though they were in civilian lif,
and had resided in the Territory for 1 year.
2. Clarifies the status of Filipinos so that they shall be treated as
citizens of the United States for the purposes of the game law. There
has been some doubt as to their status in the past.
3. Gives the Alaska Game Commission control over game or fresh
water fishes making it possible to restock depleted streams and lakes
and to stock waters that are at present barren and to control fishing
of game fish to prevent depletion.
4. Permits complete integration of the* Fisheries Service and ti
Wildlife Service in Alaska in the interest of more efficient adminis-
tration.
