ANIMAL ORGANIZATIONS SEEK TO INTERVENE IN ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR
TESTING PROGRAM LAWSUIT
On behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the Physicians Committee
for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and Doris Day Animal League (DDAL), ALDF has filed a
Motion for Leave to Intervene in Natural Resources Defense Council v. Browner, U.S. District
Court, N.D., CA. Applicant-Intervenor Plaintiffs seek to challenge the failure of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and timely implement a scientifically valid
endocrine disruptor screening program (EDSP) as required by the Food Quality Protection Act
(FQPA). The EDSP would evaluate certain chemicals suspected of disrupting the hormonal or
endocrine systems of humans.
If the court grants Applicants' motion, the Intervenor Plaintiffs will seek declaratory and
injunctive relief against the EPA for failure to meet statutory deadlines for the development of
a validated endocrine disruptor screening and testing program for high-risk pesticides.
Intervenors are represented by ALDF staff attorneys and Bruce Wagman of Morgenstern &
Jubilirer. (Natural Resources Defense Council v. Browner, PF 620.00)
