Mr. HoLxAI, from the Committee on Expenditures for Iudians and
Yellowstone Park, submitted the following
REPORT:
[To accompany bill H. R. 0973.
The soial (Oiamittee of the Home of Reprewstatives jppointed by the
on the 4th day of Marck, 1885, to inquire into the ependiture
ofpubo moneys in the ladian service an6d the Yellowdone 1Pfrk, and
oertai* other itters conwoed therewitk, aumit tAefollowing report:
The provision of law authorizing the appointment of the comuittee
is contained in  the act making appropriationa for the legislative, ex-
ecutive, and judicial expensea of the Government for the fiscal year end-
ing on the 80th day of June, 1880, approved March 3, 1885, and is as
followa:
That a committee coulating of rive members elect to the House of Reprentatives
of the Forty-ninth Congress to be appointed by the 8peaker of the Hnwve ot Hopre-
seutatives of the Forty-eighth Congroivi shall prior to the first M1ouqty of Decomher
next inquire luto and nvestigate the expendituro f appropriatious for Indians, under
treaty, ibr their support, for their education, or otherwise, and whether anly chages
should be made in said appropriations or'tbeir exenditum  Said commuittee shall
also inquire Into the expenditure of public mouey for the Yellowetouc Park and she
adjuietration ir the lawd applicable to a1d Park, whether auy chauge should be
made In said laws or the bounary of the Park and what stepsi if any can be taken to
make of practical beneft and utility thiat portion or the public dowain  That aid
committee ahall have povwer to appoiut au oomuittees, and visit the places where
appropriations mpntinued hereifi are expended, and in doing so they arei authorizedq to
use Government conveyauces and means of transportation. Said committee or any
subcommittee thereof shall have power to send for pereous and paperi and to appoint
a elerk, and thocommittoe may report by bill or otherwisetotho Forty-ninth Congress.
A sum sufficient to pay expou t nsofaid coianitt'e hereby authorized aud of witnesa
that may li summoned before it., in hereby appropriated out -of any money in the
Treasury not otherwieso appropriatod, which shall be iemediately available and pay-
ble on the drat of the chairman of said committco in sume not exceediug On thU11-
sand dollare at any one tiu.
The committee met at Omaha, Nebr., on the 15th day of July, 1i8,
and at once proceeded to
OSEBUD AGENCY,
on the great Sioux Reservation, in Dakota.
Here they met a large number of Sioux 1 udians connected with that
