Tropical Diseases: Responses of Pharmaceutical Companies, by Jack
N. Behrman,  examines  the efforts of American and European com-
panies to eradicate the six most prevalent tropical diseases-malaria,
schistosomiasis, filariasis, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, and lep-
rosy. Drawing  on  field observations, interviews, and a variety of
published sources, Professor Behrman  surveys a range of programs
conducted  both in company   laboratories and in conjunction with
health agencies in developing countries. The book includes a case
study of a major Brazilian program to control schistosomiasis.
    Jack N. Behrman   is Luther Hodges Distinguished Professor of
Business  Administration at the  University of North  Carolina at
Chapel  Hill.
