Supreme Court Nominations: Initial Reactions and More

In the first two pages of this edition of Political Report, we display the public's initial reaction to Court nominees
as measured by several different pollsters. Initial readings are usually more positive than negative although many
people answer don't know or not sure. In recent questions on Brett Kavanaugh, the split between positive
and negative opinion seems to be slightly closer than it was in the past, perhaps because of greater partisan
polarization. Gallup notes that with the exception of Robert Bork and Harriet Miers there has been little change
in Americans' fundamental support for the confirmation of past high court nominees between the initial reading
 and later measurements.

Q: As you may know, is a federal judge who has been nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. Would
you like to see the Senate vote in favor of or not?
