Upstate New York 2019

I'm writing this message while we are still deep in winter here in upstate New York. And when I say deep, I mean about six
inches, more or less. As a transplanted Californian, I still feel awe when I see snow transforming the landscape, sharp delinea-
tion of bare branch and evergreen needle, white haze filling the air. And, I look forward to the transformations of spring, when
every day I search the branches for signs of green and then experience the uplifting rush of leaves, grass, and flowers. These
exciting seasonal transformations simply don't happen in Los Angeles.

During the remainder of winter and through spring, while nature follows its annual calendar, ALLUNY will continue on its an-
nual calendar as well. I hope that you will try to check off all four of these upcoming opportunities.

+ First: Submit your annual Your membership is an incredible bargain. It includes access to ALLUNY's
network of members from public, private, and academic libraries; this newsletter; discount registration for ALLUNY events
with their opportunities for professional development, growth, and networking; and grants and awards for travel to
events. If you haven't sent in your renewal, please do so now!

+ Second: Participate in ALLUNY's As a member of ALLUNY, you have the privilege of
working with other members to make possible the benefits that ALLUNY provides. Every year ALLUNY looks for members
interested in joining the Board of Directors and committees. As a participating member of ALLUNY, you can pursue the
professional interests you are passionate about, such as advocating for laws that promote access to legal information,
providing high quality continuing education, and interacting with other information professionals. Joining the Board or a
committee is a great way to get the larger professional network and continuing education we know you want from your
membership. Contact any or for more information, and watch your email for opportuni-
    ties to participate.

+ Third: Attend the . The Institute will take place on April 26 at Syracuse University College of Law.
Thanks to the Library for hosting us! Mark your calendar and watch for registration to open.

+ Fourth: Attend a loca/ALLUNY Meetup. We have a new program this spring: Over the next few months, I will host ALLUNY
Meetups around the state. The Meetups will take place at a location in your immediate region and light refreshments will
be served. You'll be able to discuss all things ALLUNY and law libraries, as well as enjoy socializing with others who face
and solve the same professional challenges you do. ALLUNY will announce dates, times and locations in upcoming weeks.

Our beautiful outdoors constantly remind us of the passage of time. ALLUNY has its seasonal markers as well, which are made
possible only by your active participation in the organization. Please consider attending the Spring Institute and Fall Meeting,
as well as other networking events and continuing education programming.
