2013-2014 ALLUNY Newsletter 1 (2013-2014)

handle is hein.alluny/all2013 and id is 1 raw text is: Greetings all. It's still cold
outside but the signs of the
impending tug of war be-
tween winter and spring are
visible. There's snow, sleet
and rain all in the same day,
and occasionally at the same
time. Snowdrops are in
bloom with Glory-of-the-
Snow not far behind.
Thankfully, Spring always
wins.
The upcoming Spring Insti-
tute is also a winner. Our
Vice-President/Education
Chair, Colleen Ostiguy, has
worked diligently to provide
us with the program
Forensics and the Law. I
hope you will attend AL-
LUNY's education seminar
on Friday, May 17, 2013 at
the H. Douglas Barclay Law
Library, Syracuse University.
It will be informative, collegi-
al and fun - Tom French, Jan
Fleckenstein and their staff
are consummate hosts.
ALLUNY was one of 25
chapters in attendance at the
Government Relations virtu-
al training held on January
20, 2013. Many thanks to
Laura Barber, our Govern-
ment Relations Chair, for
participating. Training will
see action at a full-day Lobby
Day event on Capitol Hill on
Thursday, April 18, 2013.
There will be morning work-
shops, afternoon meetings
with members of Congress

or their staff, and time to
visit area sites, including the
Library of Congress and the
Folger Shakespeare Library.
There is no registration fee
for chapter members; break-
fast, lunch and snacks are
provided. If you are interest-
ed in attending please RSVP
to Elizabeth Holland at
eholland@aall.org by April 1.
Hope to see you there.
Long time Membership
Chair Lynn Fullshire passed
the baton to the willing hand
of Nancy Babb in February,
2013. Lynn has served the
association in many capaci-
ties over the years including
as President in 1986. The
Annual Meeting was in beau-
tiful Lake Placid that year.
Lynn retired as Principal Law
Librarian from the Supreme
Court Law Library, 10th Ju-
dicial District, Suffolk Coun-
ty, in 2010, and is an AL
LUNY Life Member. We
applaud her many years of
dedicated service and wish
her and her family all the
best. Thank you so much,
Lynn!
Our journey to tax-exempt
status is almost at an end.
On 2/11/13, Treasurer An-
drea Rabbia received the
following from the NYS
Department of Taxation and
Finance (we understand that
the only unfinished business
is the AU-11 request for sales
tax refund):

Dear Applican t:

We have received
your applica tion,
Form CT-247, for ex-
empt status with New
York State. Your ex-
emption is effective
10/25/2011. You are
required to notify this
Bureau (NYS Dept. ol
Taxation and Fi-
nance) of any changes
in your federal tax sta-
tus.
Andrea Rabbia, Everett Wig-
gins, Zach Forward
(Associate at Hiscock & Bar-
clay, LLP, Syracuse) and oth-
ers have done tremendous
work leading us on this jour-
ney. It's been at once painful
and joyous a long, arduous
process with significant mile-
stones and victory at the
finish. More on this, along
with other insights and up-
dates, at the Board Meeting
following the Spring Insti-
tute. Looking forward to
seeing everyone in May.
The tulips and daffodils will
be dazzling.
