Vol. 14 No. 1 NEWSLETTER JANUARY 1989

President's Letter
Dear Colleague,
As I start my year as president I would like to thank
all of those individuals who assisted and contributed to the
annual meeting. I would especially like to thank the exhibitors
15r coming to Utica and for their generous donations to ALLUNY.
I have always perceived life as a grand gourmet feast.
One begins with an appetizer, continues on to a wonderful green
salad, moves on to a fantastic entree and concludes with a rich
dessert. In order to properly inform you of ALLUNY matters, I
must forego the appetizer and salad and go straight to the
entree, perhaps you and I might have dessert.
You have now entered the restaurant Chez ALLUNY. The
entrees that we are offering this year include:
1. A long range planning committee
2. A continuing education program
3. Incorporation and tax-exampt status
Let me describe each entree:
1. Long Range Planning Committee.
Margaret Maes Axtmann has agreed to chair the committee. The
committee will review and evaluate ALLUNY. Margie is hopeful
that the committee will be able to submit a report and make rec-
omnendations to the officers and board of directors by October
1989. Members of the committee will be published in the next
newsletter.
2. Continuing Education Program.
Realizing that ALLUNY only offers one educational program during
the year, the officers and board of directors have agreed to try
a rotating workshop. Laurence Cheeseman has agreed to conduct
this workshop, the title is, Improving Legal Reference: Getting
Down to Specifics. The one-day workshop will be held in three
areas; Buffalo/Rochester, Syracuse and Albany. There will be a
normal registration fee and while the workshop will be held for
the benefit of ALLUNY members, we anticipate that- librarians rep-
resenting other library associations will attend. The workshop
will be held during the week of April 24, 1989. Further details
will appear in the next newsletter.
3. Incorporation and Tax-Exempt Status.
The law firm of Hodgson, Russ, Andrews, Woods & Goodyear has
agreed to do our legal work at no charge. I am hopeful this pro-
cess can be completed during 1989.
