An assault is an act done with the actual or apparent intention to touch another's per- son in a hostile manner or to touch such other in a way not consented to by such other and offensive to such other's reasonable sense of a personal dignity, thus putting such other to a reasonable apprehension of tho immediate application of such hostile violence or such an unpermitted and offensive touching. SECTION 1 (a). SECTION 2. It is not necessary that the defendant has the actual intention or the power to apply unper- mitted hostile violence to the plaintiff's person or to touch him in a way not consented to by him and of- fensive to his reasonable sense of personal dignity, but it is necessary that the defendant's act was intended to put the plaintiff in reasonable fear of such violence or touching and that the plaintiff is put in reasonable apprehension of the immediate application of such vio- lence or of such a touching. An actual attempt to apply such violence or to touch the plaintiff in an un- permitted and offensive manner is not an assault if abandoned or frustrated before the plaintiff knows of its commission. SECTION 2\(a). It is not necessary that the defend- ant has the actual intention or the power to apply un- permitted hostile violence to the plaintiff's person, but it is necessary that the defendant's act was intended to
