Nexorandi,: Interview with Itrnst Rabel and Iatem, Ann Arbor,
Michigan, Novenber 3, 1940.
fad first called on Nr. Ead Mrs. Rabel at their apartment November
2, 1940 in the afternoon - I-1/2 hours.
Had talk with Yater at breakfast at H. L.s 9.15 to 10.60 a.m. Then
at 1.50 p.m. met Rabel and ITata at Lawyerst Club - 2.30 -4 p.m.
-Babel thinko:
1. Concept of Vendelssohn Bartoldi imposuible to
carry out. Mo one could -*rite such detailed state-
vents as the *sttement of Ccuparatiive Law for the
different European states; a separate o!ve for
each state could be written but could only be intelli-
gently read by one who had studied &rasped what
Babel wishes to write which in these notes I shall
call 'XR.
2. Babel wishes to write one volume which will discuss
principal questions of conflict of laws for each
chapter in Restatement of Conflict of Laws. I thixk
his idea is that there should be
(a) statement of the qvsution
(b) different solutios and reasons for each
of the solutions followed by a statement
of twnrelative dooinance in each of the
principal European countries, including
the United States.
(He has developed alonZ these lines drafts
for three chapters: Torts, Status, Family.
