1. Constitutional Precedents for Social RiKhts.
Constitutional provisions concerning social and economic policy appear in
the constitutions of a number of States of the United Sta.tes, e.g. Arizona,
California, Colorado, IlLinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, lontxna, New York, North
Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. (Cf. Appendix_) They appetr in close
relationship with declarations of fundamental individual rights in the constitu-
tional instruments of a large number of other nations, including Czechoslovakia,
Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Poland,
Portugal, Rumania, Spain, SmitzerlLnd (cbntonal constitutions), U.S.S.R., Vatican
City, Yugoslavia, Argentina (provincial constitutions of Entre Rios, Uendoza, Salta,
San Juan, Santiago del Estero, etc.), Bolivia, Brazil (federc1 and State constitu-
tions), CLile, Colombic, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Greenland,
Guatemal ., Honduras, h1exico (federal and State constitutions), Nic.rague, Panama,
Para:guvy, Peru, El Solvcdor, Uruguay, Venezuela, China, Indian States (1.undh,
Bi:ianer, Travancore, etc.), Netherlnds Ecst Indies, Comaunnwezlth .f the Philipines
and Serarsk. Proposals for the inclusion of such provisions in the constit.tions
