ALI emeritus Council member Patricia
M. Wald of Washington, DC, received
the Presidential Medal of Freedom-the
nations highest civilian honor-in a White
House ceremony on November 20.

Members Offer New Perspectives on Projects

various states of completion. Some are at the initial stage, needing definition about exactly
what should be covered. Another, Employment Law, will come to you for final approval at
our Annual Meeting in May. Many projects are in between. I don't remember a fall that had
more project meetngs of Advisers and Members Consultative Groups, nearly one every week.
This is only possible thanks to the enormous efforts of our Director Lance Liebman and our
Deputy Director Stephanie Middleton, who attend each and every meeting (except for the
day when one project was mecting i 1).C. while another was underway in Philadelphia).
We are also grateful to our Council members who have been called upon to lead a meet-
