PERKINS PRESIDENT, AMERICAN LAW INSTITUTE AT MEETING OF COMMITTEE ON CORPORATE LAW DEPARTMENTS ON SECTION ON CORPORATION, BANKING AND BUSINESS LAW OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION* I readily accepted George Coombe's suggestion of many months ago to join you today in considering the future of the ALI's Corporate Governance Project. My enthusiasm was based not only on the opportunity to be with many friends but also on the desire to try to articulate, in the light of much that has transpired, where I think we are today and where the Project is going. There is no group more important to the dialogue than the one sitting before me, because you speak not only for yourselves but are our best line of communication with those corporate executives who are seeking to keep abreast of the Project. Thus, in a real sense, the ability of the Project to come to a successful conclusion will depend on the success with which you in this room and those working on the Project can communicate effectively. For myself, I pledge my best efforts to make this communication meaningful and productive. At the outset, I wish to express the thanks of the Institute to so many of you who, whether members or non-members, have labored long and hard to keep up with the drafts and to provide incisive and responsible commentary.
