Number, Race, and Sex of Perpetrators
The number of persons known to be involved in the 3,937 bank robberies,
burglaries, and larcenies was 4,486. The following table shows a breakdown of
the 4,486 persons by race and sex. In a small number of cases the use of full
disguise makes determination of race and sex impossible.

Investigation to date has resulted in the identification of 2,781 of the
4,486 persons known to be involved. Of these 2,781 identified persons,
36 percent were determined to be users of narcotics, and 27 percent were
found to have been previously convicted in either federal or state court for
bank robbery, bank burglary, or bank larceny.
