                     I would like to thank and congratulate our immediate Past Chair, the Honor-

                     His signature project for the year focused on improving the use of forensic sci-
                     ence in the criminal justice system, and was inspired by the National Academy
                     of Sciences (NAS) Report, Strengthening Forensic Science - A Path Forward.
                     The project included a hearing that was held at the Midyear Meeting to consid-
                     er whether there have been improvements in the use of foreiisic science since
                     the NAS report was issued five years ago. as well as a symposium that was held
                     to consider what steps need to be takeii to improve the use of foreiisic science
                     in the criminal justice system. We will continue to examine this important is-
                     sue in the year to come.

                     The Judicial Division's theme for the 2015-16 bar-year is Building Confidence
                     in the Justice System. Our efforts will focus on four pillars, each of which are
                     critical to achieving these goals: diversity of the beiich and b ar; educating the
                     public about the justice system: obtaining arnd retaining a talented ju diciar;
                     and ensuring high quality in the justice system. Each of these pillars is es-
                     sential to ensuring confidence in the justice system. With oiigoing and new
N BA ASOCIAIONprojects. we will redouble our efforts in this noble pursu:it.
