  t was wonderful seeing so many of you at the
1 38th annual Forum on  Franchising meeting in
New  Orleans. Our registration inumbers set an all-
time record, with 870 attendees from the United
States and several other countries.We are excited
about the continued growth of the Forum and look
forward to beating this record at the 39th Forum
on Franchising, which xill be held in Miami
November   2--4. 2016.
   The New  Orleans Forum Inhad many highlights,
including the plenary session teaturing Richard
Griffin, General Counsel for the National Labor
Relations Board, and David Well, Administrator of the
Wage and Hour  Division of tie U.S. Department of'
Labor. This session bighlhghted the well-oublicized
tension that has surfaced between various aspects of
employment  law and franchise law and practice, and
it showcased the thoughtfi, substantive, and collegial
dialogue that distinguishes the Forum and its annual
meeting. Kudos go to Andrew Loewinger, Eric Karp,
Jonatian Soli, and Deborah Coldwelt for their
outstandmg work on this program. As alwvays our
intensives, workshops, and peres  n cutting-edge
topics add d value by of'ering tips and best ractices
rom  our distinguished aul ty of Forum mr-embers.
Our events or Thursday nigt at 'he New Orleaiis
Museurn of Art and Friday night at the Presbytre were
both lively and rich with good company, local music,
and the best of New Orleans cuisine.
   In addition to the educational sessions and net-
worknug events, nhere vas Forum business to attend
to. During the annual meeting, the Forum presented
the following awards:

       The Rising Scholr Award to Mel Zhang, a

      versi y, for her article International Franchising: Food
      Safety and Vicarious Liability in China, publi shed in
