By Deborah Coldwell, Haynes and
Forum Chair
A s most of you know from my recent letter, the
36th Annual Forum on Franchising Meeting
was held in Orlando, Florida, this past October. We
had 820 attendees, so this marked one of the best-
attended forums ever! The intensives, workshops,
and plenaries covered thought-provoking and prac-
tical topics and were wonderfully executed by
our diverse and accomplished speakers. The social
events were relaxed and family-friendly. Our thanks
again to program co-chairs Diane Green-Kelly and
Eric Karp, who did such a terrific job in Orlando!
Jim Goniea and Will Woods, the program
co-chairs for Seattle, and the rest of the Forum gov-
erning committee are hard at work developing what
promises to be a great annual meeting in Seattle.
The meeting will be held October 15-17,2014, at
the Sheraton Seattle Hotel in downtown Seattle,
Washington. Be sure to mark your calendars and
plan to join us in the Emerald City in October.
The Forum expects to go to print with a new
book this quarter. Collateral Issues in Franchising: Beyond
Registration and Disclosure is designed to be a guide to
key collateral, but important, issues that franchise
lawyers face on a daily basis. It covers topics such
as system internet communications (websites and
social media), ancillary documents related to the
franchise sales process, franchising in unique ven-
ues, third-party debt refinancing, real estate issues,
supply chain issues, and termination and nonre-
newal issues. Our thanks go to Ken Costello, the
editor, Karen Satterlee, the publications officer of the
Forum, Rob Henley, the liaison to the publications
committee, and the incredible team of authors of
this book.

The Forum on Franchising is a leader in the
ABA in conversion of publications to eBook
format. Many of our books have already been con-
verted so that they can be purchased and stored in
iBooks or Kindle, and more are on the way. The lat-
est book to become available in eBook format is
the Forum's newly-published law school textbook,
Franchising: Cases, Materials, & Problems, complete with
a teacher's guide. This book is a true success for
the Forum, as we are one of the only forums, divi-
sions, or sections in the ABA that has published a
