Placement List
All correspondence and job listings for the Newsletter should
be directed to: American Association of Law Libraries
53 West Jackson Boulevard, Suite 940, Chicago, Illinois 60604
312/939-4764
The Association's Headquarters in Chicago is responsible for Newsletter job
listings, the advance subscription service, and invoices for placement listings.
The Newsletter will publish, at no charge, a placement listing up to 60 words
of typeset copy. For listings which exceed 60 words of typeset copy, a charge of
$.32 per word for each and every word will be made.
The deadline for placement listings is the first Thursday of the month
prior to publication. Listings will not be repeated unless the employer arranges
to do so prior to the deadline.
In June 1989, the Association's Executive Board determined that no placement
listing could be published if the salary offered was below $20,000 annually.
In 1975, the American Association of Law Libraries adopted a policy statement
on job security. This statement can be found in Volume 68, 1975, page 382 of the
Law Library Journal. It is suggested that employers review this statement when
preparing to employ a new law librarian.
Unless otherwise expressly stated, all employers announcing positions herein
have adopted and pursue policies not to discriminate on the basis of race, color,
religion, sex, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation in the employment
of librarians and staff. These employers are equal opportunity/affirmative action
employers and wish to receive applications from all interested persons.
An advance subscription service for job listings is available. For $1.25 per
month, subscribers will receive a copy of the placement column as submitted to
the Newsletter for publication. In addition, an update is mailed halfway between
Newsletter deadlines, containing positions that have been listed with the Chicago
Headquarters during the interim period. This update is included in the monthly
subscription service fee of $1.25 per month. Checks for the monthly placement
subscription service should be made payable to: American Association of Law
Libraries. Credit cards cannot be used to order this service.
AALL Bylaw Statement on Affirmative Action and Equal Employment
Membership in the Association or in any of its chapters, or participation in any
activity of the Association or its Chapters, shall not be denied to any individual,
or abridged on account of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability,
