The Association's Headquarters in Chicago is responsible for
Newsletter job listings, candidates' registration information,
the advance subscription service and invoices for placement
listings.
The Newsletter will publish, at no charge, a placement listing
up to 8 lines of typeset copy. For listings which exceed 8 lines
of typeset copy, a charge of $2.50 per line for each and every
line will be made.
The deadline for placement listings is the first Thurs-
day of the month prior to publication. Listings will not be
repeated unless the employer arranges to do so prior to the
deadline.
In January, 1986, the Association's Executive Board deter-
mined that no placement listing could be published if the
salary offered was below $16,000 annually.
In 1975, the American Association of Law Libraries adopted
a policy statement on job security. This statement can be
found in Volume 68, 1975, page 382 of the Law Library Jour-
nal. It is suggested that employers review this statement when
preparing to employ a law librarian.
California
Associate Law Librarian: The University of San Diego Law
Library serves over 1,000 primary patrons through a staff of
19 and a collection of 240,000 volumes. With the launching
of a major building and service expansion program, a
dynamic and talented lawyer-librarian is sought to undertake
the following responsibilities: Requirements: Accredited MLS
and JD degrees; 3 to 5 years of professional law library ex-
perience; strong service orientation; excellent interpersonal
skills; familiarity with legal and non-legal databases and other
new technology; supervisory experience; and demonstrated
professional involvement. Duties: Administrative assistance to
the director, head of reference and circulation, participation

in collection development, coordination of student employees,
organization of computer training, liaison with user groups
and instruction in the lawyering skills program. This librarian
also will undertake a major role in automation planning,
upgrading services through traditional and technological
means and in space planning and moving the library. USD

Headquarters and should clearly and concisely indicate:
Job Title, qualifications, basic duties, salary range and
specifics and the individual to be contacted to apply.

ABA/net 7603. To insure accuracy, listings cannot be
taken over the telephone.
Career Hotline listings will run for a two-week period and
will be invoiced at the rate of $25 for the first 60 words;
$5 additional for every 10 words over 60. Renewals for
another two weeks are at the same rate.
