Mr. T. P. Morton, Barrister, Rainy .River, Ontario, has been
appointed Police Magistrate of that town and district.
ENGLISH NEWS
A curious incident occurred in the Festival Hall, World's
Fair, St.Louis, while a session of the Congress of Lawyers was in
progress. Some panes of glass fell from the roof into the audi-
torium below, fortunately without hurting anyone. It is said that
the fracture of the glass was due to the effect of discordant notes
previously played on an organ which has been erected in the hall.
That such a thing is possible seems to be undoubted. The incident
gave Mr. Justice Kennedy, who was about to read his address,
the opportunity of aptly remarking, Fiat justitia, ruat ccelum.
Lord Lindley, speaking at the annual meeting of the Norwich
Law Students' Society, said that he was proud to be a law
student, and he had been one for the last fifty years or more.
Law touched every kind of knowledge, and the law of every coun-
try was based more or less directly on the views that country took
of religion and morals. It touched every scientific question which
bore upon the happiness or misery of mankind. Medical science
and military knowledge became to be of use to the lawyer ; but the
law above all was based upon history. The man who would master
