In New Zealand, it is estimated that one in three women has been a victim of domestic violence.1 In an effort to combat the problem, New Zealand has enacted legislation and regulations that aim to prevent and eliminate domestic violence.2 New Zealand has also created visible public education campaigns calling upon people to stop family violence, as domestic violence is called in New Zealand.3 As a result, domestic violence is no longer circumscribed to the private sphere, and it is not difficult to strike up a conversation on the issue. Nonetheless, the levels of domestic violence remain surprisingly high.
