La composition d'un groupe de conseil structur6 a court terme, constitu6 de
prisonniers choisis au hasard, a t6 variee en y incluant, h titre de
coparticipants, des benevoles de l'exterieur qui differaient par leur sens des
relations interpersonnelles selon leur entourage. Le savoir-faire des
b6n6voles sous ce rapport a influ6 sur le processus d'interaction, sur
l'opinion des prisonniers touchant le climat socio-affectif qui r6gnait au
sein des groupes et sur l'6volution de 1'attitude des prisonniers. L'am6lio-
ration de l'attitude a 6t6 particulibrement manifeste chez les prisonniers
moins anxieux que les autres. L'article commente les r6sultats du point de
vue de l'importance de la structure sociale des systbmes de service et dans
l'optique d'un examen contr616 du principe de l'intimit6 de la communica-
tion de la theorie de l'association diff6rentielle.
The present study is one in a series of experimental investigations of
short-term structured group counselling approaches in prison settings. 5'10 It is
the third in the series to explore the conditions under which citizen
participation in groups is associated with anti-criminal attitudinal gains
among participating prisoners. Andrews, Brown and Wormith6 have outlined
the Community Group program wherein approximately equal numbers of
prisoners and community volunteers participate together in focused discus-
sions, one evening a week for an eight week period, on topics having to do
with the law and law violations. An initial study confirmed that
participating prisoners were showing anti-criminal gains relative to non-
