Dans leurs recherches pr6cedentes, les auteurs ont explore cinq strategies
de conseil de base qui caracterisent un conseil colTectionnel efficace. Dans
le present article, ils font appel   des principes tires de ]a th6orie du
comportement et de la thtorie des systbmes pour montrer comment ces cinq
strategies pourraient caracteriser de bons gestionnaires. Les cinq strat6gies
de la gestion du conseil sont les suivantes: 6tablissement d'une relation
d'ordre pratique; solution des problmes; recours   l'autorit6; modelage de
nouveaux comportements; et recours aux r6compenses et aux punitions.
With ever increasing workloads, little or no increase in staff, and
growing criticisms of the effectiveness of correctional counseling, it is
critical to understand what tasks correctional counselors are uniquely
qualified to do with their clients and how the organization of a correctional
system can facilitate these tasks. The first is a client-change of clinical
perspective in which theory, research, and clinical data are needed in order to
understand which counseling techniques are most effective in certain
programs or with certain types of clients. The second is a system-change or
management perspective in which more effective ways are sought to improve
the internal organization of a correctional system. The Behavior Analysis
Systems in Corrections (BASIC) Model is an attempt to integrate the clinical
and management perspectives.
As a behavioral model, it contains the assumptions that: all behavior is
learned and maintained under conditions which can be empirically studied;
that the behaviors of persons within a correctional system can and should be
