Coming up the hard way, which inci- dentally has its advantages, he reconfirmed the principle that charac- ter, industry and dedication spell success. Judge Van Voorhis will review his interesting career, moving from one important post to another, principally in public service. And we of the Board of Trustees salute Dean Gutman for the contribution he has made as Dean of New York Law School. I am proud of the fact that I was instrumental in bringing him to this service. Having completed his term as Counsel to Governor Harriman, he turned to the field of education, in which he had become interested as the result of lectures delivered at Cornell and other edu- cational institutions.
