Truly a Renaissance Man, he has excelled as a master teacher, author, lecturer, administrator counsellor, and detective-fiction writer. His career has been marked by pre-eminence. Elected to Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation from the College of the City of New York, he achieved the highest grade average in the history of Brooklyn Law School, receiving both his LL.B. and S.J.D. degrees sunina curen laude. During his senior year, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Brooklyn Law Review and Research Assistant to the first Dean of the law school, William Payson Richardson. A member of the Faculty since 1934, he became, in addition, Assistant to the Dean in 1940 and Vice-Dean in 1945. In 1953, following the death of the school's second Dean, William B. Carswell, he was appointed Dean by the Board of Trustees. Editor and revisor of Richardson on Evidence for the 7th, 8th and 9th editions of that leading one-volume text on New York Evi- dence, the influence of which is attested to by its citation in hundreds of trial and appellate opinions, he has recently completed the manu- script of the 4th edition of Cases and Materials on Evidence. which he has edited since its initial publication. His record of public service is lengthy. Presently a member of the Special Committee of the Section of Legal Education of the Ameri- can Bar Association, which is charged with the responsibility of pre- paring the revision of the rules governing American legal education, he has served as Chief Counsel to the New York State Joint Legisla- tive Committee on Court Reorganization (1965-1967) and Chief Counsel to the Joint Legislative Committee to Study the Administra- tion of Justice (1967-1968).
