        EXPERTS TO GIVE-VIEWS


Some of the Leading Suffrage Authorities 'Who Will
              Speak at the Conference


  The local problems and methods of work in the suffrage
movement in all of the Mississippi Valley States will be dis-
cussed at a big conference to be held May 21st, 22nd, and
23rd, The first two days the gathering will assemble at the
La Salle Hotel, Chicago, and hold two morning, two afternoon
and two evening sessions. The last day, May 23rd, the entire
conference will be transferred to Milwaukee, and a strong
effort will be made there to aid, in a direct way, the Wisconsin
campaign. Mlra. Catherine Waugh Aeculloch, onb of the best
known leaders of the Illinois s,,friagits, in a short statement
printed on another page of this Journal, gives the purpose
and spirit of the conference. She is a member of the Exe-
cutive Committee of the Illinois Equal Suffrage Association,
which organization is largely responsible for the effective and
elaborate program planned.
  Mrs. Elvira Downey is president of the Association, and
is well known for her many social and philanthropic activities,
especially for her untiring services to the suffrage cause. She
is a member of the Board of Education of Clinton, and as
Probation Officer comes intimately in touch with thousands
of girls, and thereby has an unusually important and exton.

  vinced, a call is sure tobe made for Mrs. Ella S. Stewart
  Her quiet manner and-perlonal charm lend strong attraction
  to her sparkling eloquencei'and she has won national recog-
  nition as a'suffrage speaker.' For six years Mrs. Stewart wu
  president of the IllinoisEqu a  Suffrage Association.
  One of the great:attractl i'oh the program is Jane Addams's
address on the best methods of presenting the suffrage question
at legislative hearings. A ' all this country there Is not a
woman better fitted to give her views on this subject, and this
topic is of great imnme diat importance to all of the State sut.

  Mrs. Raymond Robbins 'hasfbeen connected with the Wom
an's Trade Union League,9f Chicago for years and is an
authority on the conditions, needs and  possibilities of the
women; wage earners of this country, therefore the subject

Mrso Grace Wilbur Trout, former president of the. Chiago
political Equality Lpag e, ihas not only gained recognition as
oneof the wittiest speakers' on suffrage, but Is well known as
the author of A Moron Wife, a book that received wide
press comment and comnmendation. She will speak on Social,
Features of Suffrage Work.
  Another of the promlnent women on the program Is Dr.
Anna Blount.  Dr. Blount, is a well-known physician, andLfor
the .last ten years hasr bion an active suffrage worker.
