Notice of intent of

     REPUBLIC AIRLINES, INC. Docket 39162

to suspend service at Beloit/ *
Janesville, Wisconsin

ORDER EXTENDING (ONTINUATION OF ESSENTIAL AIR TRANSPORTATION

By Order 81-3-65, dated March 12, 1981, the Board required Republic
Airlines to continue providing essential air transportation between
Beloit/Janesville, Wisconsin, and Chicago, Illinois, for a 30-day period while
we instituted proceedings to find a fit, willing and able carrier capable of
inaugurating and maintaining essential air service at Beloit/Janesville. We
have continued to renew Republic's obligation for consecutive 30-day
periods. 1/

By Order 81-9-33, September 3, 1981, the Board approved the arrangement
between Republic and American Central Airlines (formerly Mid-Continent
Airlines) whereby American Central, under a subcontract agreement with
Republic, provides essential air service at the point on a temporary basis
until a long-term replacement carrier is found to provide the service.

By Order 82-9-44, dated September 14, 1982, -the Board reduced the number
of seats required to be provided between Beloit/Janesville and Chicago from 46
to 12 per day in each direction and invited carriers interested in providing
this level of essential air service to Beloit/Janesville to submit proposals by
October 20, 1982. American Central submitted a proposal. We conducted a rate
conference with the carrier concerning its subsidy request for providing essen-
tial air service at the point and requested final comments from the ommunities
concerning their preferences. However, on February 22, 1983, American Central
withdrew its proposal. Subsequently, American Central requested that we rein-
state its proposal to provide essential air service at the point with subsidy.

1/ The latest period runs through March 2, 1984.
