 Application of

 AIR MAIL PIONEERS, A NON-PROFIT
 CORPORATION AND AFFILIATE OF NATIONAL
 AERONAUTIC ASSOCIATION Docket 19585

 for temporary exemption pursuant to
Section 416(b) of the Federal Aviation
 Act of 1958.

                      ORDER GRANTI TEMPORARY EXEMPTION

On February 13, 1968, Air Mail Pioneers filed an application
seeking authority to operate one flight from San Francisco, California
to Washington, D. C. The flight will carry philatelic mail on a non-
compensated basis in connection with the Golden Anniversary of the Air
Mail Service which anniversary will occur on May 15, 1968. The flight
is scheduled to leave San Francisco, California the morning of April 10,
1968, and to arrive in Washington, D. C. on or about April 28, 1968. It
is proposed to make all of the stops of the original air mail route from
San Francisco, California to New York City, New York and to Washington, D. C.
as follows: San Francisco, California; Reno and Elko, Nevada; Salt Lake City,
Utah; Rock Springs Rawlins and Cheyenne, Wyoming; North Platte and Omaha,
 Nebraska; Iowa City, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois; Bryan and Cleveland, Ohio;
Bellefonte, Pennsylvania; New York City, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
and Washington, D. C. Several of the stops will be for one or two days.

The applicant proposes that the flight will be made with a rebuilt
deHavilland 4B aircraft. l/ Upon arrival at Washington, D. C., present
plans call for the presentation of the airplane to the Post Office Department,
which will then present the airplane to the Smithsonian Institute for its
aviation exhibit.

Applicant requests that the exemption remain in effect for thirty (30)
days or until the proposed flight has been completed. Because of the contin-
gencies which would make such a time limitation uncertain it is believed
that a more practical time limitation would be from the date of this order
until thirty days after, the anniversary date,- Je 15, 1968. If necessary,
the applicant can request a further ectension of the exemption.

1/ Applicant in a letter dated February 8, 1968, accompanying the application,
states that the rebuilt DH4B aircraft will have current airworthiness and
registration certificates and the pilot, an air mail pioneer, holds a current
 Airman Certifinat.
