COMPLAINANTS' BRIEF.
This is a claim of $20,180, for the value (beyond insur-
ance) of the bark Rowena, captured by the Dixie July 81,
1861, while on a voyage from Puerto Cabello, in Venezuela,
to Philadelphia. For reasons which will appear further on,
no claim is made for freight, or for the cargo, but solely for
the vessel and her outfits, over and above insurance. It may
be stated thus:

The history of the case is briefly as follows:
John Dallett and his brother Henry were, for many
years previous to 1861, merchants in Philadelphia, under
the firm name of Dallett Brothers. They had built up a
