ACTS AND LAWS PASSED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
STATE OF VERMONT AT THEIR SESSION AT WINDSOR
IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD, ONE THOUSAND SEVEN
HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE, BEGUN ON THE
SECOND THURSDAY OF OCTOBER, AND
ENDING THE THIRTIETH DAY OF
THE SAME MONTH.
1795
AN ACT GRANTING A TAX OF TWO PENCE ON EACH ACRE OF LAND
IN THE TOWNS OF CANAAN AND NORFOLK
OCTOBER 14TH, 1795
It is hereby Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of
Vermont, That there be, and hereby is granted a tax of two pence
on each acre of land in the townships of Canaan and Norfolk, in the
county of Orange, public rights excepted, for the purpose of making
and repairing public roads and bridges in said towns respectively,
to be expended by the order and direction of William Williams,
Samuel Beach, Jesse Cooper and Levi Wyman, who are hereby
appointed a committee for that purpose; and any justice of the peace
in said county is hereby empowered to issue a warrant to Samuel
Beach of said Canaan, to collect the said tax on each town respective-
ly. And the said collector is hereby made accountable to the said
committee for the amount of said tax, and said committee and col-
lector are hereby directed to govern themselves in the collecting, dis-
posing, and accounting for the monies raised by said tax, agreeably
to an act entitled An Act Directing the Disposition of Monies
Raised by Tax on Lands in the Several Towns in This State, for
the Purpose of Making and Repairing Roads and Bridges &c., passed
March 8th. 1787, and the act in addition to said act passed October
24th. 1788. And,
It is hereby further Enacted, That said collector be, and he here-
by is empowered to sell at public vendue so much of the land of any
