ACTS and LA WS ,
Paffed   by    the   General    Affembly     of  the   LReprefenta-
tives of the State of VERMONT. at their Seffion at
Reznnington, October 1780.
An Act directing what Money and Bills of Credit
fhall be a legal Currency in this State.
W      HEREAS, no    particular Money, or Bills of    Oredit, as  yet
have, by  any Law    of this State, been made   legal Currency
therein.  And    whereas, not only for determining what Money    and Preamble.
public Bills oif Credit fhall be legal Currency, but alfo to decide, as
near as may be, at what Rate they feverally fhallpafs:
E it Enaced, and it is hereby Enacted by the Reprefentatives
of the Freemen of the State Of VrnIMoN', in General Af-
fembly met, and by the Authority of the fame, That all
genuine coined Gold, Silver, and Copper, fhall be legal Gold to pafs
Mloney       in  this State ; viz;-Gold, at the Rate of Five ounce; ilver
Pounds per Ounce ; Silver, at Six    Shillings  and  Eight-pence per at 260& paper
Ounce ; and coined Coppers, at Two-pence per Ounce. And that nontratIse-
the Bills of Credit emitted by the United States of America, before the
Eighteenth Day of laft March, be a legal Tender as Money, ac-
cording  to their current Value ; having   Regard as well to their
current Value at the Time of making        all Contracts, as at the
Time of rendering Judgments : To which all Courts in this State,
in their refpective Jurifdictions, are to conform themfelves.
Provided no Regard    be  had  to the Value of faid Bills, at the Provifo.
Timie of making    any  Contract  which was or fhall be for Gold,
Silver, or Money  equal   thereto ; or for Money. to be made good
as before the War ; or for Money to be paid in any particular
Thing or Things, at a certain Price ; any Thing in this Act to
the contrary notwithftanding.
An Act for regulating Fees.
W      HEREAS the Fees heretofore granted to Officers of Government,
and others, have been flated in  Continental Ourrency, which is Preamble,
fo far depreciated, that  it does not  anfwer the Purpofe intended:
And it is alfo found that the_ Fees, in fome Inftances, as formerly
ftated, were not adequate to the Service:

B   E it Enacted, and it is hereby Enacted by the Reprefentatives of
the Freemen of the State of VERMONT, in General Afembly met,
and by the Authority of the fame, That the eftablifhment of the
Fees belonging to the feveral Officers of this State, be as follows, viz:
