THE FIFTH MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF ST. THOMAS AND ST. JOHN
1945--1946
Resolution in Recognition of the Services of Edith Williams, Former Teacher
and Principal in the Publie Sciool System of the Municipality of St. Thomas
and St. John.
WHEREAS, Miss Edith Williams after having served for forty four (44) years as
teacher and principal in the school system of the Municipality of St. Thomas and St.
John found it imperative to resign from said service, due to ill health; and,
WHEREAS, During this period of time Miss Williams rendered very commendable,
efficient and devoted service, which is recognized by both the Government and the com,
munity at large as having contributed materially in building the character of the youth
pf this community by her unremitting efforts in the prosecution of sound educational
methods; and,
WHEREAS, The Acting Governor, on December 8, 1944, accepted Miss Williams'
resignation without prejudice and on December 9, 1944, recommended to the Municipal
Committee that a suitable pension be provided for her, effective as of January 1, 1945;
and,
WHEREAS, The Municipal Committee concurs in the recommcndation of the Acting
Governor; and.
WHEREAS, Miss Williams was receiving at the time of her resignation a salary of
$1104 per annum; and,
WHEREAS, It is the declared policy of the Municipal Councilof St. Thomas and St.
John that in view of the long years of service.rendered by Edith Williams in the Depart-
ment of Education, she should be granted a pension in the usual manner,.and, in addi-
tion, there should be recorded some testimonial in recognition of her services to this com-
munity and to its youth in particular:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, and it is hereby resolved by the Muni,
cipal Council of St. Thomas and St. John in session assembled, That the People of the
Municipality of St. Thomas and St. John hereby record their recognition and apprecia-
tion of the services rendered by Miss Edith Williams, veteran able teacher for forty
four (44) years in the Municipality of St. Thomas and St. John; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That Miss-Edith Williams be granted her full salary
of $1104 per annum for one year from January 1, 1945, and a pension of $900 per annum,
effective on and after January 1, 1946, and each fiscal year thereafter; and.
-   BE IT -FURTHER RESOLVED, That this Resolution be transmitted to Miss Edith
Williams officially by the Municipal Council in a monner to be determined by said Body,
and that a copy thereof be transmitted to the Governor of the Virgin Islands and the
Superintendent of Education.
Thus passed by-the Municipal Council of St. Thomas and. St. John at its Extraordi-
nary Meeting held on Thursday, January 25, 1945, at 8:30 p. m.

this twenty-sixth Day of January, A.D., 1945.
