                                         and

                                   Senator McNally

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of the children and adults of Newtown,
Connecticut, whose lives were lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the horrendous and tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut,
on the fourteenth day of December in 2012; and

WHEREAS, on that day and in that place, evil became carnate in the form of a
deranged, lethal person who perpetrated a mass shooting in classrooms and hallways of this
town's elementary school, Sandy Hook Elementary, which was, indeed, a bastion of learning,
nurturance, and cognitive development for Newtown's youngest school-age children; and

WHEREAS, when that reign of carnage ceased, so, too, had the lives of twenty innocent
first grade children and six women that included the principal and five teachers, each having
fallen as prey into the den of iniquity that enveloped the mind, body, and soul of the killer in that
time; and

WHEREAS, of all who escaped death's quest on that dark day, each child and adult has
forever been scarred by invisible trauma of unfathomable proportions, and they shall ever be
haunted by that proximate deviltry which rampaged in their midst during the endless minutes of
that horror; and

WHEREAS, the selfless and dedicated service of first responders and law enforcement
officials coupled with the desperate efforts of school personnel to manage the mayhem in the
immediate aftermath of such human destruction, and even as the investigation and recovery
continues, is nothing less than truly remarkable, bringing comfort to a people and their
community as they experience grief that is inconsolable and emotional pain that cannot be
assuaged; and

WHEREAS, in this august country where the States of our republic are united, the good
and deeply sorrowed people of Newtown and all of Connecticut have been tightly embraced by
sympathy and support of Americans; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting that this legislative body should pause to consider events of
Newtown, respectfully and reverently paying homage to the lives lost; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of the twenty children who died in the massacre at
Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, reflecting fondly upon their brief yet
treasured lives.
