WUREAs it a ears that the field officers of the fifth Preamble. regiment of mi 1ka, are willing to orpanize a company of riflemen at Amherst, within said regiment, agreeable to an application made to them for that purpose-and whereas the permission of the brigadier general, requir- ed by the militia law of this State, cannot now be obtain. ed on account of his being under an arrest: Therefore, SECT. 1. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Rep- resentatives in General Court convened, That the field ot- cers of the fifth regiment of militia or the major part of them, for the time being, may, if they see fit, organize one company of riflemen at Amherst in the county of Hillsborough, which may consist of thirty-six rank and file, to be oficered like the companies of infantry; aid each non-commissioned officer and private shall be arm- ed with a good rifle and equipt as riflemen usually are in actual service. SECT. 2. And be it further enacted, That said company of riflemen, when formed and organized agreeable to the provisions of the first section of this act, shall be attach- ed to the fifth regiment, and shall be subject to the same liabilities as if said company had been organized with the consent of the brigadier general of the fourth brig- ade.
