BE it enafled by the Governo$, CouuIcil, and Reprtentatives, in Gentral Court a[/feihbled, and. by the 4tuthority. of thefame, That whenever any Vacancy fhall happen in tlhe,.Reprefentation of this State, in the Se-' nate of the United States, by Refigntion or otherwife, the Legiflature, (if then fitting) fhall proceed to fill up raid Vacancy by a new Ele&ion , and in Cafe fuch Vacancy fhall happen, in the Recefs of the Legiflature, the Governor and Council, for the Time being, Phall be the Executive to fill fuch Vacancy; and fhall convene at fuch. Time and Place as fhall be ap- pointed by the Governor, and proceed to filli fuch Vacancy, until the next Meeting of the Legiflature.
