Made and paffed by the General
Court or Affembly of the State
of Connxeticut, in New-England,
in America, holden at Hartford,
by fpecial Order of the Governor,
oni the 19th Day of November, A
Dom. 1776.

An A& to prevent Monopolies and Oppreffion
by exceflive and unreafonable Prices for many
of the Neceffaries and Conveniencies of Life.
Y/ H E R E ,4 S the rapid and ekorbiiant rife upon the necefe-t;
ries and conveniencies of Life, in- this Day of public Calamity and
Difref/sj is chiefly occqfioned by Monopolizers, the great pefj of Society,
who prefer their own private Gain to the interefl and fafety of their
Country; and which, if not prevented, threatens the Ruin and Deflruff-
ion of the State.
E it therefore Enatied by the tcverntor, Council, and Re-
prefentatives, in General Court affembled, and by the dutho..
rity of the fime, That for the future the Price for Labour
in the Farmirig Way, in the Summer Seafon, fhall nor
exceed Three Shillings per Diem, and fo in the ufual Pro-
portioti at other Seafbohs of the Year ; and other Labour to bc
computed, and of Mechanicks and Tradefmen according to the
Ufages and CuRoms that have heretofore been adopted and prac-
tified in the diffrent Parts of this State, compared with Farming
Labour ahd the Prices hereafter fet and eftablifhed. That the
Prices of the following Articles at the Place of Market, fhall not
exceed the ftveral Sums hereafter mentioned, viz. Whcat not to
exceed Si' Shillingf per Bufhel, Rye not to exceed Three Shillings
and Six Pence per Bufhel, Indian Corn not to exceed Three Shillings
per Buffhl, good merchantable Wool not to exceed Two Shillings
per Pound, good clean well-dreffed Flax not to exceed Ten Pence
per Pound, Pork weighing from five to feven Score not to exceed
V'hrer Pence One Farthing per Pound, and from feven to ten Score
