ACTS AND LAWS, Made and paffed by the General Court or Affembly of the Englih Colony of Conneclicut, in New-England, in Abmerica, holden at Hartford, in faid Colony, on the fecond Tburfday of May, Anno Dom. 1776. An A61 for eftabliliing Naval Offices in this Colony. B E it ena.led by the Governer, Council, and Reprefentatives, in Genral Court affembled, and by the luthority of the fame, IhaE the Governor for the Time being Ihall be Naval Officer in this Colony. And be it further enafled by the Authority aforefaid, That there Ihall be kept at the Port of rew.Lond~n one Naval Office, at the Port of New-taven one other Naval Office, at the Port of Middletcn one other Nvaval Office,' and at the Port of Norwalk one other Naval Office: And that the Governor for the Time being depute fome proper Perl0n at each of Itid Ports as Naval Officers, and take Bond, with fuflicient Surety, in the Sum of One Thou/and Pounds, for the faithful Difcharge of their Duty therein, to enter and clear out Veffels and their Cargoes, and to do and aL't therein in fuch Way and Manner, and according to fluch Rules and Orders, as to fuch their Ofl-ices refpde:vcly appertain. WHEREIS it is recommended by the Ilonrabie Continental congress Preamble: to the ferveral Legflatures in the United Colonies, as Joon aspoflible, to erefi Courts of 7ujltce, orgive 7urifdilion to th'e Courts noo in being, for the Purpofe of determining concerning Captures, &c. and to pride that all Trials in fueh Caje, be had ly a 7ury, under fuch Qualflcatiens as to the refpellive Legifatures 1ballfem expedient.
