b)e employed by the confederate government as the agent or overseer
flow discharged in charge of the slaves during their service of sixty days; and slch
overseer or agent shall not be discharged by any oflicer of the con-
federate government, except for good cause, to be appr~oved by the
peoretary of war: provided, that if the requisition on any county,
city or town shall amount to only. twenty slaves and less than thirty,
iti such case an overseer or manager may be selected as aforesaid.
Subsistence   10. The owners of slaves may furnish them subsistence and pro-
visions, and in such event s'hall be allowed commutation in money in
lien of rations, equal to the commutation allowed soldiers in the
service.

Act of 166   1. l]e it enacted by the general assembly, that the twelfth section
wnendceI    of tle act passed Miareh thirteenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-three,
entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act further to prlpvide for
the public defence, passed October third, eighteen hundred and sixty-
two, l)e amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
now amended    § 12. This act shall be forthwith communicated by the governor

in this state shall be impressed by the confederate authorities, under
the act of congress entitled an act to regulate inlpressments, ap-
proved March twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and sixty-three, to the
extent provided for- in the act to which this act is anendatory. Any
call for.slaves hereafter made by the president on the governor, shall
be regarded an assent to and acceptance of all the provisions of this
act by the Confedarato Statbs.
